One Direction fans to miss out after competition rigged in Sydney's favour

MELBOURNE fans of One Direction should be braced for rejection.

A national competition by supermarket giant Coles offering fans the chance to win 10,000 tickets to see the British boy band is rigged - in favor of Sydney.

According to competition fine print, 1250 entries from NSW, then another 1250 from “all remaining entries” are drawn, with each winning four tickets.

Those 10,000 tickets are valid for a One Direction concert in Sydney on October 6. Fans must arrange their own travel to the show, making it a costly proposition for interstate winners.

Meanwhile, Victorian hopefuls go into the draw for five double passes across eight shows - a total of 80 tickets.

Other states have it tougher. South Australia and Queensland have been allocated 30 tickets each, Western Australia, 20.

Indeed, Sydney fans get another grab for five double passes across six shows.

The competition requires purchase of specific products at Coles until July 30.

Hype for the contest says: “One Direction. Over 10,000 concert tickets to be won. Exclusive new matinee concert 06.10.2013. Plus extra new tickets for existing tour dates.”

Already, those posting on One Direction fan sites know their chances are slim.

Wrote one: “I live in Australia. Yay me. I doubt I’ll win though.”

Another said hopefully: “I’m in Australia and my mum buys a lot of Coke …”

While another vowed: “After school I’m going to spend all my money on the list (of participating products).”

And one moped: “I seriously doubt I’ll win a ticket.”

Confidential asked for comment from Coles on Friday. The company had not replied by deadline yesterday.
