Demi Lovato Says She's Going to Be Brutally Honest on New Season of 'X Factor'

Demi Lovato says she's going to be a tougher judge on the new season of "X Factor."

When asked by MTV News if she had changed any of her judging techniques since last season, she explained: "I've raised my bar, I put a lot of people through last year that had the overall package but didn't have the best voices. And now I've raised the bar where I am not putting anyone through that I don't think has a winning vocal capability, and so I say no to a lot of people. I may come across as a mean judge, but it's very matter of fact and I'm very, very brutally honest." She also added she has to be like this in order not to raise people's hopes in vain: "And there's young girls that are fans and they come through and I don't want them to get to the next round and get their heart broken."

Regarding any possible feuds that may arise on the judging panel, Demi dimissed the possibility, saying she feels new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio are like her older sisters. "X Factor's so much fun. I love the people that I get to work with," said Lovato. "Kelly Rowland has become like an older sister, and same with Paulina."

If any doubts remained of just how close these three have alredy gotten, Demi further revealed: "We've actually, like, cried on each other's shoulders alredy, and been really really supportive of one another."

Demi even also showed off a friendship ring Rowland gave her. She said the only disputes that may arise are between the three of them against Simon Cowell. "We're all on the same side when it comes to Simon," she said. "It's fun having a bunch of women on the panel because it's like girlpower. It brings like a lighter energy to the show. Instead of having feuds on the panel, there's actually...It's all positive."

Lovato also pointed out how much fun Paulina and Kelly are to work with: "Paulina is like a firecracker, she's literally insane, she's crazy, but in a good way. She'll take off her shoes and run barefoot around when it's time for a break, she's like hopping on the stage. They both bring so much personality and Kelly brings so much humour to the show aswell."

Lovato said she's also come to develop a friendship with Cowell: "Simon and I have become good friends, and I'm really really thankful for that relationship because he can teach me so much about this industry and life in general. He's got a lot of life experience, you know what I mean?"

Similarly, Simon told Heat Magazine back in March, when the return of Demi to the third season was confirmed, that he couldn't be happier with having her again on the show. "She's a superstar in her own right and was a fantastic mentor last year."
