Emma Watson - Downton Abbey's Lilly James To Star In Live Action Cinderella Adaptation

Much like the prince in the fairy tale, Disney producers have found their Cinderella, though there probably weren't any glass slippers involved.

Lily James, the gorgeous star of ITV’s drama Downton Abbey, is reportedly taking on a role in a high-budget, full-length Hollywood flick. The role will be well-suited to Rose’s charms, since she will be playing the title character in a live action adaptation of Cinderella. The movie will be only the latest in an explosion of fairy tales adaptation in the past couple of years, most of them released with limited success (Jack the Giant Slayer and Hensel and Gretel: Witch Hunters come to mind). Could Cinderella: Vampire Hunter or something of that sort be next?

However, according to The Telegraph, this Disney flick has reportedly been in the works for more than three years now – ever since the release of the live action adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp.

Rose reportedly wasn’t the first actress Disney approached about the title part. At some point, it was supposed to go to Emma Watson or at least Watson was in talks to star. However, a deal wasn’t struck, so now the part has gone to Lily James– not a bad casting decision at all, if you ask us. Nothing else is known about the Kenneth Brannagh-helmed production yet, but Disney will be written by none other than the famed Devil Wears Prada screen-writer Aline Brosh McKenna. That’s all the news anyone has of the movie thus far, but Disney is set to come out with some exciting announcements in due time. Until then, avid Cinderella fans (of which we’re sure there are scores out there) will be stuck watching the animated version.
