Returning ladband 5ive have suggested that One Direction might have struggled to crack America were it not for Twitter.
A lot has changed since Richie Neville, Scott Robinson, Abs Love and Sean Conlon were last in the charts, with the evolution of social media changing the ways in which bands can connect with their supporters.
"We didn’t have social media back in the day, we didn’t have Twitter, Facebook, web chats, nothing - we just turned up to places. Whereas now you can be in room straight away with just one tweet,” Scott told Heat.
The One Direction boys have millions of followers each, with even Zayn Malik - the least-popular member on the site - boasting over 8 million supporters.
Sean asked: "Would One Direction be as big in America without Twitter? That’s the question."
“No. They. Wouldn’t,” Scott answered.
“I’m not sure either,” Sean pondered. “We had to be there didn’t we? If we weren’t there we weren’t “there’."
5ive today were announced for The Big Reunion's Christmas Party, which will take place at arenas nationwide from December 12-15.
They join Atomic Kitten, Honeyz, 911, B*Witched and Liberty X, who have all been appearing in the hit ITV2 show, which has already been confirmed for a second series after becoming one of the channel's most successful commissions of the year so far.
