Miley Cyrus achieved her fame as Hannah Montana on Disney Channel. Since then, Cyrus has broken away from her Disney roots and released three studio albums and an EP. “See You Again” from Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus is Miley’s first single credited as Miley Cyrus rather than Hannah Montana, although her debut album was released alongside the show's second soundtrack. It is a catchy song that tells of a girl wanting to see a boy again after freaking out the last time.
9. Forgiveness and Love (Can’t Be Tamed)
Miley's music became more mature on her third album, Can’t Be Tamed. On the track “Forgiveness and Love,” Miley sings how both forgiveness and love, these acts of virtue, are important to live a healthy, happy life. The song breeds positivity and gives the listener a warm feeling inside.
8.Obsessed (The Time of Our Lives EP)
“Obsessed,” from The Time of Our Lives EP, is about a girl wondering if her incessant longing for a guy crosses the line, becoming an obsession. It is heartfelt, as Miley states, "Am I obsessed with you? I do my best not to want you but I do all the time," noting that while she thinks about him all the time she doesn't want to long for him too much.
7. Who Owns My Heart (Can’t Be Tamed)
“Who Owns My Heart” was the second single off of Can’t Be Tamed. The song is about potentially meeting a love interest while at a club. The single got mixed reviews from critics and was also criticized because the music video was thought to be too sexual by parents. Despite the criticism, Miley still stayed on top with a fun dance track.
6. Party in the U.S.A. (The Time of Our Lives EP)
“Party in the U.S.A” was the lead single from The Time of Our Lives EP. Miley admitted that she never really identified with the track, but it became very successful, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. This made it Cyrus’s best-charting single so far.
5. Can’t Be Tamed (Can’t Be Tamed)
The title track of the album, “Can’t Be Tamed,” showed the world that Miley has grown up from her Disney days. The song features sultry lyrics about freedom and expressing yourself. The track is very catchy and has a dance club feel.
4. 7 Things (Breakout)
“7 Things” is the first single from Miley’s second album, Breakout. In this catchy pop rock tune, Cyrus lists seven traits she hates about an ex-boyfriend, who is widely thought to be Nick Jonas. In the last chorus, she ultimately lists the seven things she likes about the same person. The song was very successful and was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award in both 2008 and 2009.
3. Two More Lonely People (Can’t Be Tamed)
“Two More Lonely People” is one of the many upbeat tracks on Can't Be Tamed, but it stands out from the rest. It chronicles one half of a couple wanting to know if they should fight for their love. The beauty and sentiment of this song makes it great.
2. The Climb (Hannah Montana: The Movie)
“The Climb” is one of Miley’s strongest songs. Although it could be thought to be a bit "cheesy," the track is inspirational and has heart.
1. When I Look at You (The Time of Our Lives EP)
“When I Look At You,” from her EP Time of Our Lives, is a power ballad. It was later featured on the soundtrack for The Last Song, her first non-animated feature film outside of the Hanna Montana franchise. While her album, Can't Be Tamed, was the first taste of Miley's newfound maturity and desire to break away from Hannah Montana, this song displays Miley at her very best. “When I Look at You” is a song about how love is important and also the beauty you find while looking into the eyes of a loved one.
