Selena Gomez spent years casting spells as the star of "The Wizards of Waverly Place" on Disney. And after taking a break from supernatural roles, the actress returns to those roots this week as a teen vampire in the new animated flick, "Hotel Transylvania."
And, she went into filming hoping she could dream up a new voice for the part, but was disappointed to find out that she would sound like herself in the family-friendly movie.
"No, I attempted [a voice] and failed," she told MTV News during the Toronto International Film Festival, where she premiered the flick. "I tried when I got the script, I was like 'Oh maybe I can do something cool and different.' And I ended up going in, and they were like 'No, we like your voice best.' I was like 'Oh, all right'."
However, despite showing off a pretty impressive Scottish accent during the interview, she confessed, "Well, I don't think I can [do any voices]. That's the sad part."
Gomez joined the flick earlier this year; her role was originally intended for fellow former Disney star Miley Cyrus. In it, she plays Dracula's (Adam Sandler) teenage daughter. The film imagines the famed vamp as a hotel owner who caters to other mystical folks. When the home away from home is discovered by a human boy, who also happens to fall for Gomez's Mavis, well it has Dracula freaking out a little bit.
It opens on Friday. It also stars Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Cee Lo Green and Jon Lovitz.
