Will Britney and Demi help 'X Factor' ratings?

Simon Cowell stepped out with new judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato at Fox’s 2012 Upfront presentation where they were announced as the official replacements for Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. The two females will act as judges on X Factor which will debut at the end of summer.

Cowell has been quoted, singing the women’s praises, saying, “I’m absolutely delighted Britney and Demi are joining us.” He goes on to say, “Britney remains one of the biggest stars in the world, she’s talented, fascinating — and I believe she knows exactly how to spot ‘The X Factor.’”

He added, “Demi’s had an amazing career in music, TV and film for someone her age. She’s young, confident, and enthusiastic. I think it’s really important that she speaks to our younger audience. The new panel will be dynamic and will work really well with the changes we are making to the show.”

Despite Cowell’s clear adoration for his judging choices, Lyndsey Parker, managing editor of Yahoo! Music, insists that Lovato and Spears are only a “short term gain” for X Factor. Parker goes on to say that the debut episode of the Fox talent show will endure “huge ratings” but does note, “I think it could be a disaster. I think Britney could make Nicole Scherzinger look like a genius."

Andy Dehnart, editor of RealityBlurred.com, adds that viewers will only tune in to watch Brit “crash and burn.” He does note, “I really don't think it's going to work, but I am hopeful that Britney will surprise us.”

Do you think Demi and Britney are a gain or a waste when it comes to X Factor?
