Prime time is flush with its fair share of competing reality singing competitions, but veteran judge Paula Abdul is hopeful for her successors on “X Factor.”
“I think people are anticipating seeing Britney Spears,” she said on Wendy Williams Wednesday. “She’s had a long career and she’s overcome a tremendous amount of adversity, and I am always for the underdog coming back. She’s a big star.”
Abdul, 49, judged the talent competition last season, with fellow ousted judge Nicole Scherzinger, before media mogul Simon Cowell replaced them with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
But the “Straight Up” singer insists that there’s no bad blood between her and the two young starlets.
“I think they’re going to be fantastic,” she told E! News of their new gig, calling Spears “lovely” and “very sweet,” and Lovato “a new budding star.”
Abdul’s only piece of advice for the pair was less about dealing with Cowell and more about playing to the cameras.
“Live television is just that,” she told E! News Thursday. “You have to go with the flow, speak your mind, and just remember millions of people are watching.”
Scherzinger similarly wished both Spears and Lovato well in their new positions at the judge’s table.
“I wish them the best of luck,” she told E! News. “I’m excited for them.”
