ONE Direction are now so famous in America they have fans sneaking into gyms to film them while they work out.
Before kicking off their first proper headline tour of the States in Connecticut on Tuesday, Liam Payne rang Playlist HQ to update me on the madness.
The shocked lad told me: “It’s gone a bit mental. We were in the gym after we checked into the hotel and people were trying to film Harry.
“Loads of fans have been in the hotel lobby – and some of them even check in. I don’t know how they can afford it.”
1D have now sold a mammoth two million copies of What Makes You Beautiful across the pond –and been praised by Simon Cowell, 52, as the most successful X Factor act since Leona Lewis, 27.
But they were shocked to hear this week that Matt Cardle, who won the show in their year, has been dropped.
Matt, 29, confirmed on his Twitter page that he’s split from his deal with Columbia/Syco.
Liam, whose band came third to Matt two years ago, told me: “Matt’s a great talent and he’ll succeed in whatever he does.
“We would still have loved to have won The X Factor.”
However, getting to the final has more than paid off for the five-piece, who release a DVD of their debut tour on May 28 and perform at the iTunes Festival in London this September.
Liam, 18, continued: “The DVD is a chance for everyone who couldn’t get tickets to see our show, as well as it being a memento for those who did come.
“Our shows have got progressively better ever since, as have our voices. It’s been nice to see everyone improving.”
Despite the success, Liam still has the wobbles about remembering lyrics.
He admitted: “I’m really nervous I’ll forget my words but the fans are always there to help.”
