Nick Jonas and His Dog Get to Know New York

Nick Jonas wants to make the most of being 19 years old in New York, and his dog is enjoying being along for the ride.

The youngest member of the Jonas Brothers band, now starring on Broadway as J. Pierrpont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, brought along 3-year-old golden retriever Elvis for his six-month run, which began in January.

But the busy New York City streets took a bit of getting used to for Elvis, who'd previously had lots of space to run around. "I think the first week was a shock to him," Jonas tells PEOPLE, "but he was fine after that."

Another new aspect of urban life? Dog parks. "Elvis is still trying to figure out how to interact with other dogs," Jonas says, "but I've met some nice people at the dog park."

While his might not be the experience of every teenager living in New York, Jonas has no complaints. "I have really enjoyed every moment of being on the stage and doing the show," Jonas says. "And now setting up my life as an adult here ... I'm really happy with where things are at."
