Greyson Chance tells tweens: ‘Social network safely’

Greyson Chance, Edmond’s homegrown singing sensation, is reaching out to young people by way of social networking.

“I was asked by Everloop to be a part of their website so now I am somewhat of a spokesman for them,” Greyson said.

“Everloop is a great place for kids my age as well as for kids younger than I am,” Greyson added.

“It is kind of like a Facebook only it is for kids to participate in a safe way.”

Everloop representatives call it the safer social network for kids as it revolutionizes the way kids under 13 connect online. Unlike other social networking sites for kids, Everloop’s website says it provides a unique, age-appropriate social media experience for children with customized micro-networks or “loops” that safely connect kid-relevant content, services, applications and experiences. With kids games online, safe email and kids chat, Everloop is the kids social network where tweens can have fun on the Internet and safely be kids as long as possible.

Greyson said he has his own loop on Everloop where young people can interact.

“The thing about social networks is there are not enough good privacy controls and Everloop is a way young people, tweens and younger, can participate in social networking in a safe way,” Greyson said.

As the technological landscape expands and changes, parents will find Everloop a good method to help guide their children as they use social networking responsibly, Greyson said.

Because there are so many real threats in cyberspace, Greyson said kids today need to be aware of the dangers that exist and how to avoid them and Everloop provides a way for this to be done.

“There are so many ways kids can get in trouble if they aren’t careful,” Greyson said. “I would urge everyone, no matter how old they are to not engage in conversations with people they don’t know.”

The 14-year-old eighth-grader is staying in Las Angeles with his parents who take turns staying with him and he is learning online with a tutor and is busy working on new music, he said.

“Edmond is my home and always will be,” Greyson said, “and I try to come home at least once a month to visit my family and friends.”

Greyson said with his busy schedule online learning works well for him, because he is able to learn at his own speed in his own time.

“One of the most challenging parts of my life is the traveling,” Greyson said. “It’s hard to focus when you’re in a new city every day.”

He added he doesn’t mind the travel, though, and is looking forward for his second trip to Asia in April.

“I am really excited about getting to go back to Asia,” Greyson said. “I love Asian food. When you order chicken in China, the Chinese bring out the whole chicken and it tastes so good.”
