Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney make Top 10 Tours List

No surprise here: Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney finished in the top 10 for music tours this year.

What may be surprising is that Swift — who grossed nearly $100 million and sold more than 1.3 million tickets in 2011 — finished only fifth on that list.

Turns out that Irish band U2 — which played Vanderbilt Stadium on July 2 — generated three times the money that Swift’s tour did in 2011, according to numbers from Billboard Boxscore.

Finishing at No 2: Bon Jovi, with an amazing $193 million brought in from 68 shows. British boy band Take That generated $185 million on the road, and Roger Waters, a founding member of Pink Floyd, took in $150 million in 2011.

Kenny Chesney, with $84.6 million earned on the road, finished just behind Swift in the top 10.

After that, you don’t see a country act until the No. 24 spot, where Jason Aldean landed with nearly $28 million in receipts. And Toby Keith finished just behind him with $27 million earned on the road to round out the top 25.
