As the newest face of CoverGirl, Taylor Swift, who does her own makeup on tour, is spilling all her makeup secrets – and disasters. Taylor admits to E!Online she is a makeup junkie, and in junior high she used to think it was “OK to put black eye shadow all the way from your lash to your eyebrow” à la Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen.
Swift started experimenting with her mom’s makeup when she was a little girl, and says she learned by trial and error after “catastrophic” results in middle school. Taylor has discovered she likes a really bold eyeliner line, minimal eye shadow and she now does a standard red lip.
Country’s princess explains, “I just feel like it really helps you show emotion when your mouth is really defined – when you’re upset, if you’re happy, if you’re smiling – all that’s really defined. When you’re projecting your emotions to a large group of people like that [in concert], you want it to be something that’s really definitive.”
In other Swift news: Taylor chatted about her supportive parents on NBC’s Today Show with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb this week. Taylor, who will be 21 on Monday, shared, “My dad is the one who is like, ‘Man, I’m telling you, I know I said your last show was the best show, but this one was just, ya know, so great.’ And he’s handing out guitar picks to the crowd.” When the hosts asked Swift if there was advice she didn’t take from her mother, she said, “Of course.”
She also talked about learning lessons on your own saying, “The ones that impact you the most, are the ones you learn the hard way.”
