Selena Gomez Talks Met Gala 'Beauty Disaster,' Rare Beauty & Finding Self-Confidence

Selena Gomez opened up about a time when getting glam didn’t go according to plan and shed light on the beauty industry during a new interview.

The 30-year-old Rare Beauty owner was asked by Glamour to talk about her “most memorable beauty disaster,” and she threw it back to the 2018 Met Gala. If you forget, the theme in 2018 was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

She showed up in a stunning white gown, but Selena said she was mostly focused on a tanning mistake.

“While I was getting ready for the Met Gala a few years ago, we put on a bit of tanning lotion and it looked beautiful,” she said about the event and what went wrong. “But as the night went on it kept getting darker and darker. When I sat down, I saw a photo of myself, and it looked completely orange. And here I am at this prestigious event – my first thought was – ‘I have to get out of here!’”

We think she looked stunning!

That’s not all the pop star talked about, though.

During the interview with Glamour, she opened up about her beauty brand Rare Beauty and it’s goal.

“My hope with Rare Beauty is that we have open conversations around beauty and mental health and can change the industry by breaking down unrealistic standards of beauty together,” Selena explained.

She also spoke candidly about her own experiences in the public eye and how it affected her self image.

“Being in the public eye from such an early age certainly comes with a lot of pressure,” she told the publication. “Self-confidence is still something I work on daily, but when I stopped trying to conform to society’s unrealistic standards of beauty, my perspective entirely shifted.”
