Clay Aiken is running for Congress.
The American Idol alum announced on Monday (January 10) that he would be seeking a seat in North Carolina.

“Can you believe it’s been almost 20 years since I first got to share my voice with you?” he tweeted. “That’s a long time. A LOT has changed! We need powerful voices more than ever, so I’m running for Congress. And my voice is even stronger now! ;-)“
Clay will be running in the 6th district, which includes Durham and a territory represented by Rep. David Price (D-NC), who is retiring. The primary takes place in May.
He previously ran for Congress in 2014, but was defeated in the general election by Republican Renee Ellmers.
“I came home. I came out. I became a father,” Clay said in his announcement video. “These days my life looks a lot more like yours than Justin Bieber’s, that I can promise you. But one thing that has never changed for me is how much I love my home state.”
