Well, we guess anything really can happen. While we all thought Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran totally did date a few years ago, she's saying that's not the case. What the...?
During a recent interview with Elle UK, Ellie talked about that infamous love triangle between the singers that was rumored to have gone down a few years ago. You know, the one that Ed supposedly wrote his diss track "Don't" about? She insists none of that is true.
"I did go on a few dates with Niall, but I was never in a relationship with Ed," she explained in the July issue. "I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing."
She went on to go off about the double standard women in music face, recounting a similar conversation she had with Taylor Swift.
"I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven't dated. It's something I've talked about with Taylor a lot. She definitely feels that. She gets bothered by it," she told the mag.
"It's like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had. It's definitely something we both think happens to female artists over female artists over male artists.' "
Ed recently addressed the drama with Ellie in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Asked if he "regret letting slip" that the song was inspired by her and Niall, Eddie responded:
"I never let it slip. What happened was one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was," he said. "We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked up on it. So I never actually confirmed it."
