The video directs people to Miley's Happy Hippie Foundation, which aims to help homeless youth. According to the Happy Hippie website, forty percent of those people identify as LGBT and nearly one in three transgender people have been turned away from homeless shelters.
Funds donated to Miley's nonprofit organization will go toward "providing support services and basic needs items for thousands of homeless youth in Los Angeles... including transgender women living with HIV in Los Angeles and San Francisco," their press release reads.
On Tuesday, Miley released a collaboration with Joan Jett, where they performed the rocker's 2013 song "Different." The song encourages people to embrace the things that make them unique. Similarly, Dido's "No Freedom" follows that theme.
"Try to think of the world/ Where you could stay and these safe hands could go/ Take your heart above the water/ Wherever I choose to go," Miley sings.
"These lyrics relate so perfectly to Happy Hippie & our message to the world! FREEDOM & LOVE!" Miley wrote on social media dedicating the song to Leelah.
"I'm never going to transition successfully, even when I move out," the struggling teen wrote in her Tumblr suicide note. "I'm never going to be happy with the way I look or sound. I'm never going to have enough friends to satisfy me. I'm never going to have enough love to satisfy me. I'm never going to find a man who loves me. I'm never going to be happy."
Future Backyard Sessions will include intimate performances with Melanie Safka, Ariana Grande and Laura Jane Grace, too.
