Meet the New Disney Princesses: Dove Cameron, Olivia Holt and Sabrina Carpenter

The Disney Channel hit its stride with shows like Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens, series that taught serious life lessons. The channel moved on to a second generation, adapting to industry changes and new lessons that needed to be taught. Now I find people complaining that the Disney Channel hasn't really taught them anything since the end of Suite Life on Deck and Wizards of Waverly Place, but I'm beginning to see it change. And that change is held in the hands of some really powerful girls.

Dove Cameron

Special Screening of 'Barely Lethal'
Dove Cameron (she's the blonde in this pic) is the first Disney Channel princess that I've found myself saying I'd like to meet since Selena Gomez. It doesn't even matter that she's younger than me - she's definitely more talented!

Kind of a triple threat with acting, singing and sewing, Dove's fame was hard earned. Born Chloe Celeste Hosterman, Dove grew up on a small island without even a TV. She moved with her family to L.A. when she was 14 and fit in right away. Her dad died not long after, and she had her name legally changed to Dove Olivia Cameron to honor her childhood nickname from him (though her boyfriend Ryan McCartan still calls her Chloe - how cute is that?).

Now Dove puts her triple threats to use on the Disney Channel. You can see her acting and singing on the show Liv & Maddie, which was originally going to be called Bits and Pieces and she was only going to play one girl, but production switched up the show and she adapted fast, showing how truly talented she is. You can also see her acting in Cloud 9, and the summer's new movie Descendants. You can see her sewing talents in the clothes she wears nearly every day. She's going to have her own clothing line some day.

This kid is going to go far.

Olivia Holt

I'd also like to meet Olivia Holt. She started as an itty bitty thing in Disney XD's Kickin' It.

Olivia has been training in gymnastics since she was 9, and she was able to put that into her stunts as Kim Crawford, black belt. That's her first threat.

Her second threat, would of course, be acting. Olivia grew up performing in theater, from age 3, doing such plays as Annie and Through the Looking Glass.

On screen, other than her three years on Kickin' It, Olivia starred in made for TV movie Girl vs. Monster and has picked up guest spots on various Disney shows. Now she has a Disney show of her own. In I Didn't Do It, Olivia found a twin brother in Austin North and three best friends. It's a goofy show about a group of four kids who try to get away with many-a-scheme. And it's one of my favorite shows currently on TV.

Olivia recorded the theme song of I Didn't Do It, along with plenty of other soundtrack songs, marking her triple threat.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter may as well be the teenage witch with all the talent she has. Sabrina has only been acting for about five years, but she already has a few hits under her sleeve, including a flick with Daniel Radcliffe. Though she's most known for her role on Disney Channel's Girl Meets World.

But acting is not all Sabrina Carpenter can do. She just came out with a full album, Eyes Wide Open. Her voice had kind of an old timey sound with a twang. As a triple threat, Sabrina can play some of her own instruments, too.
