When Zayn Malik announced he was leaving One Direction, there was a flurry of rumors that they would replace him (heck, even Will Ferrell said he'd take the gig). The band confirmed they were carrying on as a four-piece, but then a new bit of buzz started to heat up: would Simon Cowell make a reality show to fill the vacancy?
RadarOnline reports that "the management team is pondering the idea of developing a new reality show to find a new member for the band."
Um. No.
An insider told the site that Simon is "really pushing to do a 'search for the fifth member' sort of reality show singing competition." The source backed up the claim by noting that "One Direction was founded on the same concept on The X Factor, so Simon and the management team think that it is kind of a spectacular idea and they know that the ratings would be enormous."
The RadarOnline report also says that the other band members are "already realizing that they may need to have five in order to survive."
Turns out, there's no truth to it at all, thankfully. We can't even imagine some reality show contestant joining the band. A spokesperson told Gossip Cop: "This story is completely made up. It's totally untrue."
