After 5 Seconds Of Summer was named Worst Band at the 2015 NME Awards Wednesday night, they didn't head to Twitter and slam the show. Instead, they celebrated their new title.
Won the NME worst band award. I'm so damn happy right now. thx to everyone who voted 😍😍 #dreamscomingtrue
- Michael Clifford (@Michael5SOS) February 19, 2015 The Official 5 seconds of summer Twitter account and bassist Calum Hood also gushed about their "victory," with Calum retweeting a fan's congratulatory tweet and the band's official Twitter sharing a headline from The Irish Mirror that read, "5 Seconds of Summer take over from 1975 as WORST BAND at the 2015 NME Awards."
- 5 Seconds of Summer (@5SOS) February 18, 2015
5sos won worst band I'm so proud of them
- THANK YOU CAL (@mukeslouis) February 19, 2015 As it turns out, Michael actually asked 5SOS fans to vote for the group after they were nominated in the category last year.
"HOLY SH*T WE GOT NOMINATED FOR WORST BAND AT THE NME AWARDS. pls pls pls vote. I'm not even being sarcastic it would be so incredible to win," he tweeted to fans at the time...who obliged his request.
The group beat out One Direction , Bastille, U2, Blink-182 and the 1975 for the award at the NMEs, which makes it a point to make fun of mainstream music artists with awards like "Villian of the Year" (Harry Styles has won that twice).
Congrats?
