We should probably talk about what you're going to wear Friday to celebrate the Fourth of July. But first, a little Taylor Swift style inspiration.
I mean, yes, we all want to look patriotic for the holiday, to show that our truest colors are really red, white and blue. And yet, when I do the #ThrowbackThursday thing and think about some of the looks I've concocted over the years, it's embarrassing. Flag-printed halter tops, stars-and-stripes bikinis, jeans with red pumps and, worst of all, the year I attempted that Old Glory manicure. Huge fail.
So this time around, I'm going to steal Swift's look.
She was leaving a New York City gym earlier this week with her hair still a little damp, and she still looked great. It's like she's celebrating her American spirit in the classiest way possible. Independence Day never looked so good.
Let's start at the bottom. Those shoes. Nude suede perfection. Platforms in front but with a slim heel in back. They are Jimmy Choos, and you can't have them. Well, you can, but you'd need $700 plus all those rush charges.
Instead, get these Sam Edelmans, for under $70.
Next up would be those pale blue and white toile capris Swift is wearing. They may not scream "Flag!" but the combination of blue and white is always patriotic. I couldn't find those exact pants, but these Ella Moss Biarritz skinny crops in cobalt and white would work.
For the crisp white blouse, you need to have one that's long enough in back to create Swift's mullet-shirt look. The Seamed Prep School Shirt from Current/Elliott would be perfect. It's menswear inspired with a shirttail hem and has just enough material in the front to tie up in a front knot.
Swift's bag looks like it's Dolce & Gabbana, but I think this golden brown shopper bag from H&M for $35 will do just fine.
Above all, do not forget the matte red lipstick. That may be Swift's signature lip color every day, but it's what takes this blue and white look into Fourth of July territory this time of year.
