1D's Niall Horan spends quality time outside his hotel meeting and greeting fans in Manchester

Niall Horan has shown how dedicated One Direction are to their fans by spending a good chunk of his Saturday afternoon meeting and greeting them in Manchester on Saturday.

'Guys thank you for being patient outside! makes it a lot easier to take pics when everyone is calm!,' the 20-year-old tweeted to dedicated 1D fans who had queued for hours outside the band's city centre Manchester hotel.

Dressed casually in a plaid shirt, with a white T-shirt underneath, blue jeans, trainers and wearing some dark shades, Niall was happy to pose for selfies with fans and sign collectible items.

Niall was also presented with a Manchester City shirt backstage at the show.

'Cheers to @mcfcofficial for the shirt, had a great night at your stadium last night!' Niall tweeted graciously and gratefully.

He was later tweeted by Nick Webster who looks after the giant Derby County Rams flag that is unfurled at matches that it was time he came to Derby, where Niall is originally from.

'About time you did a concert on your home turf lad. Pride Park!' Nick tweeted, to which Niall replied, 'I would love to! Dream!!'

Meanwhile Louis Tomlinson probably could have done with a bit of support in recent days after a MailOnline exclusive video of him smoking a 'roll up cigarette' in Peru emerged.

But the One Direction star was the one showing support, for his home nation, on Saturday as he stepped out while wearing a red England football training top.

The 22-year-old singer, who is a big football fan and is rumoured to be interested in buying his hometown team Doncaster Rovers, wore the football attire as took a stroll next to the boy band's latest gig venue – Manchester City's Etihad Stadium.

Louis took time out for the day after playing with the group at the football venue on Friday night.

The stars are also set to return for another gig on both Saturday and Sunday, which is perhaps why the star opted to remain close to the venue during the day.

Louis' latest outing comes after it was reported that he is on the verge of buying his beloved Doncaster, just days after shocking video footage of the 22-year-old apparently smoking cannabis in Peru emerged.

But, lifelong Rovers fan Tomlinson - who even made an appearance for the club's reserves team earlier this year - is said to be concerned the recent controversy could jeopardise his chances.

According to The Sun, a source said: ‘The timing of the Peru video has really upset him because he doesn’t want anything to jeopardise the deal, which is very commercially sensitive and worth a seven-figure sum.’

The pop star was embroiled in controversy this week after exclusive MailOnline footage of him and bandmate Zayn Malik, 21, showed them smoking a suspicious looking roll-up.

Neither have addressed the video but Louis is said to be concerned the 'scandal' could hinder his plans to takeover his hometown club.

The singer, who was born in Doncaster, is a season-ticket holder at Rovers and made his professional appearance for the reserves team in February after signing to the club’s books last summer.

He now plans to take his love for the club one step further – by joining forces with businessman John Ryan, who previously owned the club before selling off a large share to a consortium.

The pair are said to be in the process of setting up a trust to buy the recently-relegated side and negotiations of a formal bid are said to be at an ‘advanced stage’.

It is thought Tomlinson and Mr Ryan – who still owns a quarter share of the club – will act as co-chairmen if their bid is successful.

The pair, who hope to become the new owners as early as July, have ambitions to take the club back to the Championship within a year and into the Premiership within three.
