He may have made his name in a teen boy band, but those days are clearly far behind Nick Jonas.
The 21-year-old looked extremely beefed up and burly as he stepped out in West Hollywood on Wednesday, showing off his toned torso in a tight black T-shirt.
Teamed with a pair of beige trousers and a shaved head, the singer and music producer looked almost older than his years while leaving trendy clothes store Fred Segal.
'Basically, it’s circuit training, so about six exercises, all targeting different parts of the body and then following it up with a two-minute cardio burnout. It's been a really effective workout routine for me, and it keeps it interesting.'
The star's change in diet was made more difficult by the fact he has type-1 diabetes.
'It’s really about just staying on top of it and managing every detail,' he revealed. 'I had to work with my doctor, making sure all my numbers were good and that I wasn't putting too much stress on my body working out as much as I was. When I work out, my blood sugar goes up. But then about an hour and a half later it drops down low.
'So, post-workout I would have to not only have protein to rebuild muscle but also carbs to sustain my blood sugar. So when I cut a lot of carbs out of my diet, I had to be conscious of that.'
Nick has been taking a break after serving as the musical director on his friend Demi Lovato‘s U.S. Neon Lights Tour.
His band The Jonas Brothers split last year after a ten year stint in the music industry.
'It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that our time as the Jonas Brothers is over,' the group wrote in a statement last November. 'This decision has not come lightly, and we know that many of you will be disappointed.
'The time has come for us to move forward on individual career paths. We have been a band of brothers for 10 years and are now choosing simply to be brothers.'
