Miley Cyrus takes inspiration from Jim Carrey's character as she debuts unflattering bowl cut

She is known for experimenting with fashion, usually opting for the less is more strategy.

But on Tuesday Miley Cyrus took inspiration from a rather unlikely character as she debuted a new unflattering bowl cut while chatting to a group of male friends outside a studio in Los Angeles.

The 21-year-old looked the spitting image of Jim Carrey's Dumb & Dumber character Lloyd Christmas, just with blonde hair - complete with geeky outfit.

The singer dressed in black trousers, held up by braces, a cropped white top and boots, while added bright red lipstick to complete her look.

Miley couldn’t have looked happier as she stood chatting while her friends remained seated at a table.

While she is currently single, Miley has recently been linked to Twilight actor Kellan Lutz, although he insists their relationship is purely platonic.

'Miley and I have been friends ... it's comical for me,' he said on the Today show.

'I'm a public figure, she's a public figure, I've been friends with her for six years and we're in the same circle.... I'm dating everyone these days, let's just start that rumour!'

Meanwhile, Miley recently suffered a snub when acclaimed photographer Juergen Teller declined to shoot her for the latest Marc Jacobs fashion campaign.

The spring campaign was released by Nylon last week and the Wrecking Ball star was almost unrecognisable.

But none of that is thanks to Teller, who has previously worked with Winona Ryder, Sofia Coppola, Charlotte Rampling, Michael Stipe and Rufus Wainwright for Marc Jacobs campaigns.

'I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist,' Jacobs told Women's Wear Daily. 'He just didn't want to shoot her.'

Instead, the new campaign was shot by David Sims.

'We wanted this beach with the girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark,' Jacobs added.
