Demi Lovato Talks Past Struggles in Nylon: "I Have No Secrets"

When it comes to her past struggles, Demi Lovato hasn't been one to hide any of the details.

In the new issue of Nylon magazine, she candidly talks about her battles with addiction, an eating disorder and self-harming that eventually led to her rehab treatment.

Demi's issues were, in part, due to the pitfalls of fame at a young age, as she explained, "My parents tried to control me, but I'd be like, 'Oh really, I'm grounded? Well, I pay the bills.'"

Demi added, "They did the best they could. And I think that's why a lot of young stars struggle when they're making money or providing for their family."

She noted, "My mentality was 'Work hard, play hard.'"

Growing up fast in the limelight was a challenge, Demi noted, as she explained, "It was hard to listen to the word 'no.' I wanted to make my own rules. I thought that if I was adult enough to get there, then I could party like an adult."

She added, "And obviously, I couldn't."

Her honesty since rehab has helped her form an incredible bond with her fans, she explained, saying, "Now I have probably the best relationship between any artist and their fans because I have no secrets."
