Demi Lovato Talks About Revealing Her Cocaine Addiction: "I Want to Be the First Person to Say It"

Demi Lovato has opened up a lot in the public eye.

After X Factor's live show last night, Demi sat down with us to explain what made her decide to share her revealing story about her past cocaine and drinking addiction.

"I just released Staying Strong," Demi said," and I talk about my addiction issues sometimes in there." But sharing that part of her life is still new to her. "It's something that I've never talked about before, she said. "And I speak at a lot of places, and the more that I speak I just don't want it coming out--I want to be the first person to say it."

She credits her mom, Dianna De La Garza, for her bravery in speaking up about her own struggles. "So I just opened up and I was proud of my mom for opening up. She's never done that before," the 21-year-old told us.

Demi admits she had momentary second thoughts after talking about her addiction so openly (she revealed she used cocaine on an airplane) with Access Hollywood, "I was like 'Oh God, what did I just do?'" Demi said. "But my fans are really incredible and really responsive. Even people that aren't my fans are really responsive."

You hear that, Lovatics? You're incredible!
