Demi Lovato: "I've Lost the Privilege to Drink Responsibly"

Demi Lovato has often remarked that her recovery is ongoing--and recently shared that she can't drink alcohol recreationally.

Demi's time in rehab for addiction issues, self-harming and and an eating disorder have taught her some important things and knowing her limits is one of them.

She told OK! magazine (via Mirror 3AM), ''Some people can smoke and drink recreationally. I'm not one of those people. If I do that, it will spiral out of control very quickly. I've lost the privilege of being able to drink responsibly.''

Demi points to the challenge of maintaining her sobriety when her dad died this year, but knew it was something she worked too hard on to fall back into old habits.

She explained, "I decided to stay strong when my father died. I worked so hard on my sobriety--I wasn't going to give it up."

Demi added, "When I feel like I want to give up I think to myself, 'No, what about the 17-year-old girl that's been free of self-harming for nine months?' If I give up my sobriety, that would mean it would be OK for her to go back to self-harming."
