Speaking openly about your past struggles is hard for anyone, but it's even harder if you've got the world watching your every move.
It hasn't been easy for Demi Lovato to share her story and her road to recovery with her fans, but there's another difficult aspect for the 21-year-old singer. She has a younger sister, Madison, who looks up to her. "It's hard having an 11-year-old little sister," Demi told us. "She's about to turn 12."
"But talking about drugs and alcohol in front of her with her knowing what they are, she's been around it for--I've struggled and there's just been stuff," Demi said. "So she's learned a lot at a young age, but I think it's actually helped her. Because you know when you get to high school and college, people are going to start smoking pot and drinking a little bit--it's normal."
Demi doesn't pull any punches when it comes to giving Madison advice, telling her younger sis, "I just want you to know that when you do that stuff, you're kind of dancing with the devil because you're not going to know where that line is. You never know when you're going to cross it and you can't get back." Demi adds with a laugh, "And just look around [at the family], by the way you're f**ked. So I'm just saying, not a good track record so you probably shouldn't at all."
It sounds like Madison is taking heed. "She was like, 'I know.' It's so funny, I try to talk to her about growing up and stuff, it weirds her out so much."
We think Demi is doing a pretty awesome job of being a good big sister and a role model.
