After the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25, Selena Gomez was one of the first people to support Miley Cyrus, calling it “amazing” and “awesome” — but was the “Come & Get It” singer just sugarcoating? HollywoodLife.com has the truth.
Selena believes that Miley’s racy image is the key factor in why she’s selling so much, and that it’s a mistake for her career, a source close to Selena revealed to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
“Selena would never come right out and trash Miley but she does think Miley’s making a mistake by being so raunchy,” the source said. “She thinks it’s bad for women in general but also for her as an artist because it puts out the expectation that she should do that too because sex sells.”
Miley seems to be very proud of her image and the fact that her album sales are skyrocketing — clearly she doesn’t seem to care what anyone else thinks! However, is her raunchiness — and its success — ruining the expectations for the rest of the pop stars? Selena seems to think so, as she feels the pressure to keep up with what’s trending.
We were shocked when Selena revealed to a sold-out arena of fans on Oct. 19 in Uncasville, Conn. that she’s told she is not sexy or cool enough. She’s told that if she acted differently, people would actually “love” her. Obviously people around Selena are seeing Miley’s massive success and assuming that Selena has to be just like her to get ahead — but Selena just wants to be herself.
Which is perfect! Even though Selena doesn’t twerk or wear racy clothing, we don’t think that means she’s not sexy or cool — in fact, it makes her an individual artist with a positive image!
