Yes! Another article about Miley Cyrus!

Miley Cyrus seems to me like one of those kids at school who dresses a bit ‘edgy’ and brags about how many drugs they're taking and generally feels as though they’re worshiped by everyone else; when in reality most people just ignore them and carry on living a normal life whilst feeling a bit sorry for these self-appointed ‘cool kidz’. Unfortunately for us, her attention seeking seems to be working with her latest video gaining over 19 million views in its first day setting a new record on Vevo.

Her ‘twerking’ (my hatred for that word grows daily) and naked antics have made her the most talked about ‘artist’ (I use that term loosely) of the moment. I’ll admit that writing about her pretty much guarantees that this article will receive a lot more twitter and facebook audience than an article about anyone else would. But there will come a time when everyone tires of seeing her tongue (among other body parts) hanging out and we’ll be left with a has-been Disney star who possesses very little talent other than (at best) a semi-interesting country tone. I feel as though she definitely won’t go down in history as one of the greats – in fact I can almost be certain that she won’t go down in history at all.

For me that time came around 40 seconds into her new video from her collaboration with the ever so sharp and trendy Mike WiLL Made It (don’t ask me). Obviously she’s wearing as little as possible, smoking, singing about drugs and (the final nail in the cringe coffin) rapping!

What bothers me the most about Miley Cyrus is the constant referral to MDMA which caused a bit of controversy in her first single ‘We Can’t Stop’ in which she sings “dancing with Miley” sounding very similar to “dancing with Molly”*. In an interview with The Daily Mail she said “If you’re aged 10 then the lyric is Miley, if you know what I’m talking about then you know, you can Google me and you know what I’m up to”. She seems to act as though taking ecstasy is no big deal when in fact it is.

A lot of people are influenced by her; even those who don’t actively want to be. The glamorisation of Class A drugs really irritates me – I know a lot of people who take various forms of drugs and I have no issue with the less harmful ones (slightly hypocritical I know). However I do have an issue with the idea that taking drugs – especially ecstasy - is ‘cool’. People take drugs for various reasons but it's a sad situation when you start popping pills in order to create an image for yourself.

I wish someone would just take her to one side and say to her, “We get it Miley, you’re no longer Hannah Montana, now please stop singing about drugs and put that bloody tongue away!”
