It was a love that blossomed out of deep personal tragedy – the death of a stillborn child.
And yesterday the midwife mum of One Direction star Louis Tomlinson and the man she plans to marry were accused of cruelly flaunting their romance.
Johannah “Jay” Tomlinson, 40, met Daniel Deakin, 30, as his wife Elaine’s pregnancy ended in heartbreak.
As a senior midwife, she assisted and comforted Elaine and Dan after the agonising stillbirth of their first child, a daughter, at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The couple were distraught following the bereavement in June 2011.
But just months afterwards Elaine, 39, faced new heartache when Dan left her – and later set up home with Jay.
Jay and her four daughters now live in the detached stone cottage where Elaine and Dan, who were divorced last October, had planned to raise their family.
Approached by the Mirror yesterday Jay insisted: “No, I did not deliver the baby. I was a midwife.
"There were 17 midwives there. I don’t want to talk about it – so we’ll leave it at that!”
