'Let Miley Cyrus be a lesson to you': Shocked mum writes open letter to daughter telling her not to copy star's controversial behaviour

A mother shocked by Miley Cyrus' controversial VMAs performance has written an open letter to her daughter, warning "let Miley Cyrus be a lesson to you" about the type of girl she wants her daughter to be.

Writing on her Roadkill Goldfish blog , Texas mum Kimberly Keller told her daughter, who is a fan of Miley Cyrus: "This is what happens when you constantly hear everything you do is awesome.

"This is what happens when no responsible adult has ever said the word "no", made you change you clothes before leaving the house, or never spanked your butt for deliberate defiance."

Former Hannah Montana star Miley's raunchy performance with Blurred Lines singer Robin Thicke on Sunday night sparked a storm of criticism from viewers and fellow celebrities, with Kelly Osborne , Kelly Clarkson and even Robin Thicke's mum all weighing into the debate.

And Kimberly's letter seems to have struck a chord with many concerned parents, wracking up more than 2.5 million views since it was posted on Tuesday and generating almost 1,400 comments.

Her heartfelt missive says she wants her daughter to respect herself and insists rather than being cool or sexy, Miley is a "desperate girl screaming for attention".

She goes on to tell her daughter she is too "valuable" to behave like Miley.

In a second post talking about the response to her letter , she emphasises that she wishes Miley had someone there to tell her she is precious too.

She later told Good Morning America : "If I could say anything to Miley, I would say this: 'Honey you are beautiful, you are valuable, you are loved, and you don't have to do this for attention. This is not who God created you to be."
