Scouting For Girls write new track for One Direction: "It's a great song"

Scouting For Girls frontman Roy Stride has written a new song for One Direction.

The singer-songwriter revealed that his new cut is on "the shortlist" for the boyband's upcoming third album, after his track 'Stand Up' was featured on the yearbook edition of their debut collection Up All Night.

Asked how he approaches writing a track for the biggest boyband in the world, Stride told Digital Spy: "I used to think, 'Ah, let's write a song for a boyband,' whereas now I've just realised you've got to write a f**king good song.

"To get on a One Direction album - every single songwriter in the world wants to get on it - you've just got to write an absolutely amazing song. I don't think about who it's for, I've just got to write something that is amazing."

Questioned as to whether he would do it again, the star replied: "Yeah I'd love to. I really do enjoy writing and I feel like the more you do the better you get at it.

"I've got a song which I don't know whether it's going to make the final album, but it's on the shortlist. It's a song which wasn't written for them, but is probably one of the best songs I wrote last year.

"Their manager was like, 'We really love this, let's get them to do it and see how it sounds' - and it worked because it's a great track."

Scouting For Girls recently announced plans to release a Greatest Hits collection in the UK on July 29.

It will be preceded by their new single 'Millionaire', which will be available to download on July 22.
