A Miley Cyrus petition recently launched at the We The People petition site has one goal in mind: make the singer’s hit song “Party in the USA” America’s new National Anthem, replacing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which has officially held the title since March 3, 1931.
Before we have a CD demolition Dixie Chicks-style, however, it’s worth mentioning the Cyrus has nothing to do with this, and hasn’t released a comment at this time. In order for the White House to review the petition and issue an official response, the petitioners will need 100,000 signatures by August 1.
As of 5 a.m. EST on Monday, there were 322 signatures, leaving the Miley Cyrus petition in need of 99,678. While the petition has been active since July 2, it takes a little time to get the word out. Here at The Inquisitr, we’ve seen a few posts hit 10,000 Facebook likes in a short amount of time, so it’s not farfetched to think supporters might reach their goal well ahead of the deadline.
There’s certainly no shortage of love for “Party in the USA.” Mashable notes that it’s the 23rd most-viewed video on YouTube and that to-date, it has amassed 342 million views, making the 100k goal even more feasible.
The song centers on a girl’s move to Los Angeles and drops mentions of Jay-Z and Britney Spears throughout.
