Jasmine Villegas, who shot to fame as Justin Bieber’s leading lady in the music video for chart-topping single Baby, has become a role model for abused teens after opening up about the domestic abuse she suffered with an ex in her new song.
The pretty brunette has been busy recording her debut album and one song that has already won her masses of fans is Didn't Mean It, in which the 19-year-old is vocal about a past abusive relationship.
Villegas revealed on US show Today that she decided to speak about her painful experience after running out of cover up stories for the bruises and cuts on her body.
"People have said, 'You gave me the courage to call the hotline and I helped my mum get out of an abusive relationship,'" the teen admitted.
"I used to have, like, bruises, fat lips. I used to have, like, everything. After a while, the excuses just add up, so I couldn't hide it (abuse) anymore."
The National Dating Abuse Hotline have commended the singer’s actions, crediting her single for bringing more awareness to domestic abuse and increasing the amount of calls they receive from teens in a similar situation.
Villegas, who is tipped for success, was discovered while she sang on a street corner at aged 11.
