Demi Lovato has one of the biggest hearts in showbiz, so when she started making plans for her 21st birthday on August 20, she didn't just want to throw a big expensive party. Instead, she plans to give something back.
"I'm actually going to go to Africa," she revealed earlier this week in an interview on The Ralphie Show. "I am just going to do a bunch of charity stuff and I feel like the best way to celebrate anyone's birthday is just giving back and helping others."
The singer, who spent time in rehab in 2010, battling an eating disorder, cutting issues and bipolar disorder, feels lucky to have made it to this birthday milestone. But shedefinitely won't be celebrating having reached the legal drinking age by sipping on champagne.
"Birthdays are all about celebrating life and people are very blessed to even make it to 21," she says. "So the last thing I think anyone should be doing on their birthday is poisoning themselves [by drinking]."
