Indeed, the One Direction boys are on a quest to beef up as their gruelling work schedule takes them from one sold out show to another with their Take Me Home world tour.
But while the results are debatable, Irish heartthrob Niall Horan proved his workouts are starting to bear fruit by showing off some impressive definition during a rare night off in New York.
With the North American leg of 1D’s mammoth road show winding from one seaboard to another, the 19-year old made the most of his mini-break by relaxing at the Big Apple’s Soho Hotel with tousle haired band-mate Harry Styles.
After a day of R&R, Niall hit the town – but there was no escaping the legion of fans gathered outside with cameras at the ready.
As they clamoured for autographs, the singer’s unbuttoned denim shirt gave them the opportunity to marvel at his newly toned physique – in particular those burgeoning pecs.
Trendy Niall opted to dress down for his night on the town, matching his loose fitting shirt and white vest with a pair of skinny jeans and white Nike Blazers.
While the teen appears to be pleased with his blossoming bod, his employers at Columbia Records are probably congratulating themselves on a job well done after urging the band to shape up.
The record label are said to be keen on keeping the lads as fit as possible during the extensive two-month tour of the US, which draws to a close in Los Angeles this August.
As a result, the five-piece brought in mixed martial artists Mark Jarvis and Jimmy Wallhead to put them through their paces earlier this year.
'It’s important the lads are in the best possible shape for these dates,’ a source told The Sun. ‘Bosses don’t want half-measures. The boys spend a lot of time travelling and there can be a tendency to eat junk food and play a lot of video games.
‘But, thanks to Mark and Jimmy’s new regime, they’ve been working out lots more.
‘Harry has really bulked up his arms, and Liam has a sturdy set of abs. Niall, Louis and Zayn have been working out with separate trainers and they’re getting into it, too.’
While the band bulk up, they’ve also been celebrating their latest success at an awards ceremony after being named winners of the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Award for Ticketmaster best Live Act.
‘Thanks to everyone who voted for us to win the Nordoff Robbins Best Live Act 2013. We are over the moon,’ said Harry in a statement. ‘Congratulations to Nordoff Robbins on another amazing Silver Clef Awards. What an incredible charity, helping people with music therapy.’
While they might be delighted, the band won’t be joining winners including Coldplay, Labrinth, Vampire Weekend and Jessie Ware when the awards are handed out at London’s Hilton Hotel in Park Lane later today.
With two months remaining on their US leg, Niall and the boys will be taking to the stage in Mansfield, New England this evening.
