With more than 30% of the vote, Demi Lovato’s “Something That We’re Not” was your overwhelming choice for the best song of May. Not bad for an album track that most of the masses haven’t heard yet!
But those who have heard “Something That We’re Not” know it’s almost impossible not to fall under the song’s spell. We put it in our own list of the month’s best songs, saying:
… if the former Disney star really wants to own the summer, she’ll give a big push to “Something That We’re Not” sometime before Labor Day.
And Billboard was even more effusive in its praise:
Everything about the song works: the sun-stroked guitar lick, the bratty “Hey!” interjections, the revved-up incredulity of the line “You wanna be more than just friends!,” and of course, Lovato’s delirious engaging delivery.
It’s unanimous, then: “Something That We’re Not” is the official jam of May 2013. May it soundtrack your summer from now until September!
