A fervent One Direction fan was struck by a lorry and rushed to hospital outside the Metro Arena in Newcastle on Monday while she waited to catch a glimpse of the band before their performance.
The English-Irish group, comprised of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, are currently performing in the United Kingdom as part of their international Take Me Home tour.
It has been reported that a 16-year-old young lady was waiting to view the heartthrobs outside the Metro Arena in Newcastle before One Direction’s performance on Monday.
Apparently the girl got hit by a large moving vehicle to the dismay of numerous eyewitnesses.
Fellow fans were deeply distressed as they called emergency services to report the incident.
The injured teenager was quickly transported to local hospital Royal Victoria Infirmary.
"Police were informed at 3:30pm this afternoon that a 16-year-old girl had suffered minor injuries after being hit by a lorry in Dunn Street near the Metro Arena,” a police source told British newspaper The Mirror.
“She was taken to hospital as a precaution and has since been released. Officers are carrying out enquiries in order to establish what happened.
"There was an ambulance called from a member of public outside of the arena.
"The truck wasn’t anything to do with the venue."
One Direction kicked off their 117-date Take Me Home world trek in London on February 23.
Apparently fans have been shrieking throughout their performances.
It is rumoured music bosses have ordered the singers to practise their set with a track of screaming female fans booming in the background.
“It helps them manage their vocals. There’s little point rehearsing in an empty arena because it’s completely different when the venue is filled with people making noise,” a source told the publication recently.
“Adding screaming sounds is the only way to make the sound check realistic.”
The band will tour through Europe, the US, Canada and Mexico before hopping to Australia and New Zealand, followed by their final shows in Japan in November.
