Harry Styles leads Margaret Thatcher celebrity Twitter tributes (despite being a Labour supporter)

Harry Styles led celebrity tributes to Margaret Thatcher today, after the former British Prime Minister died from a stroke.

The One Direction singer has previously pledged his allegiance to the Labour party but took to Twitter to pay his respects to the Tory Iron Lady.

Hazza, who's the last person we'd expect to be engaged with politics, made it clear he "leans to the left" in an interview recently.

But he paid tribute to the former Conservative leader tweeting: "RIP Baroness Thatcher .x"

The 19-year-old wasn't the only famous face to make reference to Thatcher's death this afternoon, with Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, Big Brother star Imogen Thomas and opera singer Katherine Jenkins also paying their respects.

Red-head Geri paid tribute to Margaret Thatcher for inspiring her as a feminist: "Thinking of our 1st Lady of girl power ,Margaret Thatcher , a green grocer's daughter who taught me any thing is possible...x"

Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins paid tribute to the controversial former Prime Minister, tweeting: "RIP Baroness Thatcher. I will always fondly remember the afternoon tea & chat at your home #GirlPower".

But she clearly came under attack for her support by anti-Thatcherites and returned to Twitter to defend herself, posting: "Say what you like but she was a wonderful supporter of our military in her later years and for that reason I have massive respect."

And Imogen Thomas also suffered abuse from her followers after she posted: "RIP Margaret Thatcher x"

The new mum quickly deleted her tweet and posted: "Too much backlash for a Monday! This tired head can't deal with it today..."

X Factor star and Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark also found himself walking into a load of abuse when he sent his best following Thatcher's death.

He then posted: "Getting a bit of backlash about thatcher, maybe I'm not up on history???"
