Justin Bieber plays defence: 'I know I got my head on straight'

It seems to be a trying period for Canadian pop star Justin Bieber but the 19-year-old isn't taking shots from the media lying down. The Biebs rose to his own defence on Friday with a comprehensive, and lengthy, posting on Instagram.
"I'm 19 with five No. 1 albums, 19 and I've seen the whole world, 19 and I've accomplished more than I could've ever dreamed of...I know my talent level," he wrote. "Everyone in my team has been telling me, 'keep the press happy' but I'm tired of all the countless lies in the press right now. Saying I'm going to rehab and how my family is disappointed in me. My family is beyond proud, and nothing's been said by them, my grandparents wouldn't know how to reach to press even (if) they did want to so that was a lie and rehab cmon (sic)."

Bieber's comments come in the wake of countless media offerings which suggest all manner of things, from the innocuous report that he is in a relationship with 17-year-old British singer Ella-Paige Roberts Clark, to more serious stories that he is "headed for a stint in rehab" and his grandparents have expressed concern for his behavior. It has not been substantiated that he has a relationship with Roberts Clark, nor that he has a substance abuse problem and is seeking rehab, nor have his grandparents spoken to the press.

Since his break-up with Selena Gomez, however, Bieber's had a number of incidents which have given rise to speculation about his personal life and emotional state. A picture of him smoking marijuana surfaced in January, he was nearly 2 hours late for a concert at London's 02 arena and he cussed at a U.K. member of the paparazzi, challenging the photographer to a fight.

He also posted a tweet last week addressing some of the issues the media has highlighted but this time, on Instagram, his defence of his actions, and his current state of emotional and mental health, was more comprehensive. Bieber suggested he's got it more together than others such as diva Lindsay Lohan and went on to note some positives about his life.

"I know my talent level and I know I got my head on straight. I know who I am and I know who I'm not," the singer wrote. "My (message) is to believe. My albums could be about anything but my messages have been to never say never and believe; not to believe in me, but believe in yourself. I honestly don't care if you don't believe in me because I believe in me, and look where that's gotten me so far. "
Bieber continues on his 'Believe' tour in Europe.
