Rebecca Ferguson 'Blamed One Direction Management' For Split With Zayn Malik

Rebecca Ferguson allegedly blamed the One Direction management team for prompting her split from Zayn Malik because they believed she was 'bad for his image.'

The 26-year old singer enjoyed a four month fling with Zayn, 20, while they were taking part in the X Factor tour in 2011, but according to author Louisa Jepsom the end of their brief relationship was less than amicable.

Writing in an unofficial Harry Styles biography, Louisa says Rebecca accused Zayn's team of instigating the split because they were uncomfortable with him dating a mum-of-two.

“Zayn went out with fellow finalist Rebecca Ferguson for four months. Rebecca was seven years Zayn's senior and also a mum to two young children,” she writes. “She blamed 1D's management saying that she was bad for their image and also revealed that she went through a 'hard time.'

“Zayn later said that the relationship was the 'wrong decision' and that it ended badly.”

Despite their alleged discomfort with Zayn and Rebecca's relationship, the band's management are said to have encouraged them to play the field with older women because they felt ladies of a certain age had the potential to be easier to deal with in the long term.

“Traditionally boy bands were often banned by their management from having girlfriends so they would appear available to their fans and not alienate them,” reads another extract from the book.

“However, a decision was taken in the 1D camp that the boys could have relationships and be open about them – and there have been claims that they were encouraged to date older women as they felt the fallout following any split would be less dramatic.”

Last year Rebecca appeared to be pointing the finger of blame at Zayn during an interview with the Daily Mirror by hinting that he had cheated on her.

“I am a bit done with men, for now anyway,” she said. “I am yet to find one faithful. I don't know why boys are like that. I think I am too nice with them and let them get away with murder. It is heartbreaking to feel that I have been let down like that.”
