Jennifer Lawrence was “surprised” by her wardrobe malfunction at the SAG Awards.
The Silver Linings Playbook actress admits that her embarrassing blunder at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles last week – when the skirt of her layered Dior gown fell down as she got up to accept the Best Actress award – shocked her just as much as it did viewers.
In an interview with the Daily Mail newspaper, she said: “It’s the way the dress was structured. It’s a tiered dress, which I didn’t understand until I sat down and saw my thighs through sheer material and thought, ‘What’s going on?!’ ”
The 22-year-old starlet remained good humoured about the incident, however, and quipped that the dress “was supposed to do that”.
She joked: “I planned it. I was concerned people would start talking about the award that I won and my acting, so I thought I’d pull a stunt just to get things back to where they need to be.”
Although she is quick to laugh off her faux pas at the SAG Awards, the BAFTA-nominated beauty resents the term ‘horse race’, which has been used to describe the tight contest between her and her fellow Best Actress nominees – Dame Helen Mirren, Jessica Chastain, Emmanuelle Riva and Marion Cotillard – at the British film awards on February 10.
She explained: “As soon as you become a celebrity, you start feeling like a zoo animal. It’s gross. People forget about your humanity when you become famous, so I’m not surprised that we’re compared to a horse race.”
