Miley Cyrus Explains Why Her Album Is Taking So Long

In a world where Rihanna manages to release a new album each year like clockwork, it's easy to see why Miley Cyrus fans might be frustrated by the former Disney star's relative lack of musical output. It's been over two years since Cyrus released Can't Be Tamed, and fans are starting to get anxious for the next chapter in Miley's music career.

They've been promised great things: Miley has hinted at an entirely new sound for the next release, telling Rolling Stone earlier this year that some songs have a real Motown flavor. "When you're making a record you never think of what weird direction you're going to go, but that was something that popped up in a few of the sessions we've been working on, and it's been really fun," she said.

Miley also said she was hoping to release a new single by November: "It's just whenever we feel we've got that [song] we feel really confident in being the first single. I've got songs right now I feel like could potentially be singles, [but] it's been two years that I haven't said anything, and I want that to be the right thing we say."

An eager Cyrus fan inquired about the singer's release plans this week, leading the singer to tweet, "Folks! When you write your music and your creating it doesn't happen over night or on a deadline. You write til your heart is empty then you live your life til you have stories to tell again and then you make ANOTHER record."
