Break ups in the public eye are never easy and this was definitely the case for 1D band member Zayn Malik and fellow X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson, which the superstar has now opened up about, saying that 'it did end quite badly'. Oh dear...
And looking back, it seems like Zayn may even have some regrets about hooking up with the Scouse star.
"It was just a weird situation and a weird time I was going through being away from home on the X Factor tour," he told Now.
"To get that comfort and friendship from someone was nice. "But I think it was a wrong decision to make at such a young age. Then it did end quite badly so we don't talk any more."
Apparently the fact that she had two young kids made it more difficult too, as he explained, saying: "That was definitely unrealistic. That's evident now."
Although Zayn didn't want to talk about the split at the time, Rebecca was more open in the media about it.
He never felt the need to have his say though, adding: "I tried to stay away from getting into that because I'm not interested in the technicalities of whatever happened". It doesn't sound like there's going to be a happy ever after in terms of their friendship though, and apparently the pair are more than happy that way.
"It was just a wrong idea from the start," Zayn said. "It shouldn't have happened. It did. And then we dealt with it and went our separate ways."
Meanwhile, the star also opened up about the constant 'cheating rumours' surrounding him and his current girlf, Little Mix's Perrie Edwards.
Zayn continued: "I told her [Perrie], 'This is my job, this is what's going to happen, stories will come out. Do you still want to be with me?'”
“That was established from the start and after that it was about me and her. Perrie has a lot of trust in me and I have a lot of trust in her. That's why it works.”
He added: "Our jobs are full-on every single hour of the day. She gets that because she has to do exactly the same thing. We have a lot of trust and understanding between us. I think that's why our relationship works."
The couple went public with their romance in April and when asked what exactly the 'Wings' singer fancied about One Direction's self-confessed bad boy, he claimed: “She likes my tats. She likes the whole rock'n'roll look."
