Van Halen vs. One Direction: Eddie's Son Calls British Pop Band 'Dickheads'

Wolfgang Van Halen, the bassist for family rock band Van Halen, ran into British boy band One Direction yesterday and didn't particularly enjoy the experience.

According to his Twitter account, the son of Eddie Van Halen encountered the group while in Birmingham, England after having performed on a bill with Slash and Myles Kennedy Monday night in Newcastle as a touring member of Tremonti.

"Fun fact: Was just insulted by that shitty boy band #OneDirection in the lobby of our hotel this moring!" Van Halen tweeted. "Greetings Birmingham!"

In a few follow-up tweets Van Halen added: "No joke. That ACTUALLY happened. That group of kids in #OneDirection were dickheads to @IIEROCKII @GWDrums and I."

The "@IIEROCKII" is the twitter account of Creed/Tremonti guitarist Eric Friedman while "@GWDrums" is the twitter account of drummer Garrett Whitlock, who plays with the Tremonti project fronted by guitarist Mark Tremonti.

"had a run in with some boy band in the hotel lobby," Whitlock tweeted yesterday. "no worries. I can't take a insult from someone who doesn't even write there own tunes".

Van Halen added one more barb via Twitter saying: "They must call themselves that because all of their hair points in #OneDirection."

As for the boy band, the group made no mention of the incident on its Twitter account. The group started their "1DRadioTour" in Birmingham and carried on to Manchester. Fortunately One Direction has yet to incur the wrath of "@Wolfiesmom" Valerie Bertinelli as she's made no comment on what happened.

Tremonti -- touring behind new album All I Was -- continues its British/European tour this evening with a show in Birmingham before wrapping up the trek with a gig in Milan on Oct. 23.
