Demi Lovato wants to be memorable, not just trendy.
The 20-year-old singer, in the midst of grueling X Factor duties, is working on the follow-up to her 2011 album, Unbroken, which features the hits “Skyscraper” and “Give Your Heart a Break.”
She has grown up a lot since releasing her debut album, Don’t Forget, and she wants to show that through her music. While she works on new tunes, she tells Teen Vogue that going into making this album, she’s not so much into making music that is current, but instead she wants to make music that is timeless, honest and mature.
“For a long time, I was pretending to be someone that I wasn't, and I was miserable,” she told Teen Vogue. “When I came out and said, ‘I'm human, I've got problems, but I'm willing to share them,’ that's when I started to really connect. I've just begun working on my fourth album, and I want to do that in my music too. I'm tired of songs that don't have much emotion in them.”
She has been inspired by Adele and Taylor Swift, who have both done it successfully.
"I love the way that Adele has carved out a path for a singer that's very emotional, but I also love how Taylor Swift can do the same thing — she puts a lot into her songs yet they're still very catchy. I will say that I'm tired of all the dubstep that's on the radio right now — I think it's going to be out in two months. I want to make something that people will listen to for a while, rather than something that's just trendy," she added. "I feel like I've grown as a person, and I want my music to grow with me."
Demi just recently returned to the studio to begin work on her new album. She recently tweeted about her therapeutic writing session.
“I love writing songs... It's like putting together the pieces to a therapeutic puzzle,” she wrote.
Even though there is no release for the new album as of yet, it looks like 2013 will be her year. She hopes to release a new single by December.
