Korean hip-hop singer Psy, the man responsible for the quirky music video "Gangnam Style" which has since gone viral on the Internet, will leave for Los Angeles on Wednesday to meet US pop star Justin Bieber, to explore collaboration opportunities, reported Korean media.
Speculation is rife that Bieber may work with Psy to create a US adaptation of the song that has drawn the attention of celebrities like Robbie Williams and the US news media.
Psy, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, expressed that he owed his present success to the K-pop boy bands and girl groups which have come before him, and said he got noticed because, unlike them, he is one of the few K-pop artistes who are "neither handsome nor idol material".
While the music video has been viewed over 28 million times on video sharing site YouTube, and has been praised for its catchy rhythm as well as its wacky 'horse dance', not everyone is impressed - his detractors have labelled his music vulgar.
But the 35-year-old star is unperturbed by their criticism.
He feels that, like himself, most people "belong to the B-list" in life, which is why they identify with and enjoy his music.
According to Psy's management agency, YG Entertainment, an alternative version of "Gangnam Style" called "Oppa, You're Just My Type", will also be released on Wednesday.
It will feature the same music as "Gangnam Style", which alludes to the luxurious lifestyles of the wealthy living in Seoul's exclusive Gangnam district, but will have new lyrics that express the thoughts of a Gangnam girl.
