Earlier this month, Miley Cyrus shocked everyone when the 19-year-old Hannah Montana star confirmed she is engaged to her 22-year-old boyfriend, Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth. Now, everyone wants to know: Will the young-and-in-love couple actually last?
Naturally, we asked that very question to dating advice columnist Julia Allison last week while she was promoting her new Bravo reality series, Miss Advised.
Her response: “Of course not!”
As she explained to Celebuzz:
I would say that about most Hollywood relationships. And it’s not even entirely their fault. There are just forces greater than them working against the strength of their union. There’s almost nothing they can do about it, unless one of them [stops being] an A-list star; pulls a Paul Newman. And I don’t see either of them wanting to do that anytime soon.
“Last is a relative term,” she added. “Will they last 10 years? That would be remarkable. I doubt it. I would give it five or less. But really, [it's hard for] any celebrity relationship. I thought Demi [Moore] and Ashton [Kutcher] were going to last.”
On Miss Advised, fans get a closer look into Allison’s professional and personal life when she makes the big move from Chicago to Los Angeles. On her list: finding a boyfriend, which she admits is inevitably challenging in any major city.
“Men [in Los Angeles] are trained out here to be naturally amorphous,” she said, of her experience dating in a new city. “They’re not lent to definitive plans, or to say, ‘We’re dating,’ or to being directed in their courtship. They don’t say, ‘I’ll pick you up at 8.’ It’s just like, ‘Do you want to hang out?’ It’s a very surfer mentality that’s very lackadaisical. It’s the antithesis of New York.”
“Men in L.A. flake constantly,” she added.
