Did Taylor Swift Really No-Show At the CMT Awards to Watch a Hockey Game?

We assumed that everyone was watching Game Six of Spurs-Thunder last night rather than the CMT Awards, but maybe it was another sporting event that was really commanding the nation’s attention. You wouldn’t think that a hockey game between the Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils would be of much consequence for the country community, but it was for at least one of its biggest stars—Taylor Swift, honorary Canadian, who was apparently too invested in watching the drama unfold between Anze Kopitar and Ilya Kovalchuk to bother to make an appearance at the CMT Awards—where she was, of course, nominated for several awards.

Taylor was spotted by TMZ leaving a Brentwood bar showing Game Four of the LA/NJ Stanley Cup finals last night, as the…third-biggest? night in country music was going down in Nashville. This is not the first time this year Taylor’s Kings fandom has gone on publci record, as she was spotted gooning it up with buddy Chord Overstreet at a Kings game against the Minnesota Wild back in February. Unfortunately, the Kings lost to the Devils by a score of 3-1 (though they still lead in the series by a 3-1 margin), but perhaps more pressingly, Taylor got shut out of the awards, thus sparing us the rare sight of the Oh My God YOU GUYS!!! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU ALLLLLL!!!! Taylor face when she is denied a single statue at an award ceremony she attends. (It exists. Trust.)

Anyway, who wants to take bets on which Kings player Taylor will be rumored to be dating in a week-and-a-half? Mike Richards? He’s a scrapper, but he’s probably not tall enough. Jeff Carter? He’s a hearty 6’4″, and like Richards, an ex-Philadelphia player—and we know how Taylor loves to pretend she has Philly roots. Make it happen, internet.
